District of Sense - ideally located and well developed.
The district of Sense lies in the north-east of the Kanton of Freiburg. Geographically the district belongs to Western Switzerland. It extends over 102.44 square miles and is the second biggest district of the kanton.
It extends from the foothills of the Alps (highest point Schafberg 2234m) to the foothills of the Swiss Plateau (lowest point on the Saane below Bösingen at 486m above sea level). Owing to this situation the district offers a varied landscape and a rich and diverse flora and fauna.
Conditioned by this geographic situation the district of Sense constitutes the hinterland of the town of Fribourg, but in parts is already in the catchment area of Bern.
An excellent traffic network is making the most of the potential given through its position. The railway between Bern and Fribourg has been in operation since 1862, the motorway A12 between Flamatt and Fribourg since 1973 and between Bern and Vevey since 1981.
