Obermaggenberg castle ruin

The construction typical for around 1300 replaced the family castle near Maggenberg-Tafers. Obermaggenberg was destroyed during the war between Bern and Fribourg in 1387. The castle changed hands frequently after the Maggenberger family had died out around 1400.

The Heimatkundeverein (local geography and history association) bought the ruin in 1927 and is its owner still. The ruin was extensively renovated in 1951-52 and 1993-94. In addition maintenance works on selected parts of the ruin were carried out at various moments.
